PS Gel®

PS Gel® is an advanced sealant used in a blood collection tube to separate serum from clotted blood through the centrifugation process.

Material Information

PS Gel® is comprised of an acrylic polymer and a suppressed filler. It is thixotropic and water insoluble and retains gel-like properties. No adverse reactions to any component of blood have been observed.

Directions for Use

PS Gel® can be applied in several ways:

Pour PS Gel® into a collection tube (usually 1.0-2.0g), then add test blood to the collection tube.
Pour PS Gel® into a dispenser (usually 1.0-2.0g). Pour test blood into empty collection tube, then add PS Gel® to the collection tube on top of the test blood.
Add PS Gel® to the container with the whole blood prior to centrifugation.

Then,

Leave the collection tube containing the collected blood and PS Gel® standing for 30-60 minutes.
Centrifuge the collection tube at 1,300 - 1,600xG for 10 to 15 minutes.

As the centrifugation of the collection tube occurs, PS Gel® adjusts to a balanced weight, lying between the clotted blood and the serum. It exhibits mobility, either rising upwards (Figure 1), or flowing down into the collection tube (Figure 2) to form a solid partition between the serum on the top and the clotted blood below.
